Because Ares
P2P connects to all major P2P networks, it is possible to find and download
almost anything. To ensure fast and reliable downloads, Ares P2P constantly
searches the networks for more sources while optimizing the use of bandwidth
to maximize download speeds. |

|
If you use a software firewall (e.g. ZoneAlarm) you will need to make sure Ares P2P gets full and unlimited access to the Internet. Windows XP users may
experience additional connection problems after installing Service Pack
2 (SP2). These problems can be solved by applying a number of patches. |

When you connect to a P2P file sharing network you open part of your hard drive to thousands or even millions of other connected users. The part of your hard drive that is visible to other users of Ares P2P is limited to your download folder. The default download folder is located in the Ares P2P installation folder (e.g. C:\Program Files\Ares P2P\Downloads). You should never add private files to your download folder. This includes emails, financial statements, photos, medical records, and other documents that could reveal sensitive information about yourself or your family. Filter Out Inappropriate ContentAres P2P can be configured to filter out files that contain adult content. This is especially useful when you allow other family members to use Ares P2P on your computer. Keep Out Viruses and Other ThreatsSome files are infected with computer viruses like worms and trojans. These viruses, if allowed access to your computer, can delete files, corrupt your operating system, or even cause permanent hardware damage. To protect you from unwittingly contaminating your computer with a virus, Ares P2P does not allow you to launch certain file types (e.g. .exe, .bat, .vbs, and .bin) from within the application. In addition, Ares P2P can be configured to filter out suspicious files from the search results. However, the best way to keep your computer protected is to always scan new files with an up-to-date virus scanner. Respect Intellectual PropertyIf you share copyright protected files such as songs, movies, or books, without the consent of the copyright holder, you can be held liable for copyright infringement. Recently the RIAA and a number of performing artists have succesfully sued users of P2P file sharing programs for allowing other users to download copyrighted songs from their computer. Many of these cases have been settled out of court for thousands of dollars. It is your responsability
to use Ares P2P within the legal boundaries of your country's intellectual
property laws. |
